In the true fashion of an ARPG you will find lots of bad gear. Huge variety of gear in the way you would expect. Finding shrines in the world and restoring them grants points to devote to constellations with a huge variety of features not just passive bonuses. The Devotion system which was not something originally planned adds a really cool aspect of customization. Combine skills to create many synergies between any of the six. Combine two of the currently available six classes to craft the character you want to play. There is real depth in the character customization with plenty of build options for all different play styles. We got the features they said we would plus more. I've only played as single player, but the game does offer co-op mulitplayer via local server connections (like Titan Quest - no online servers, yay)! PS - really looking forward to expansion AND the modding community once the game settles in. The pace is great and there's enough play diversity to offer plenty of replayability. The graphics are very good - not amazing, but authentic for the type of game. The story is interesting and there is enough to keep those interested immersed. The environment/climate is interesting, the classes are fairly archetypal but with a fresh spin, and the hunt for loot keeps you hungry for progression. It has all the best elements of an old-school aRPG game, with some new mechanics to keep it fresh. I played nearly 400 hours while it was in beta alone, and can't wait to actually, really start playing the game now that it is in full release. It has more than lived up to the hype and exceeded all expectations. I was an early backer (2010), then Kickstarter backer, and have purchased the game for a few friends. If you played both games, you will quickly see the resemblances such as how the tiered skill tree works, giving you only two abilities to start off with, but as you reach Tier 2 on the tree, you get more abilities etc. I can see that the developers played a lot of Titan Quest in the past, as this game has many of its features, which isn’t a bad thing at all, as you can see in my Titan Quest overview I am crazy for it. The animations and graphics are a bit rough but the gameplay makes up for it tenfold. I actually bought the newly released Definitive Edition, which includes all the expansions.Īs the name states, this game is all about the grim undead, witchcraft, sorcery, demons, knights and everything in between all wrapped up in loads of gory gameplay. However, it was actually newly created in 2016 and as they say, “ don’t judge a book by its cover”, because Grim Dawn is amazing and very addictive. Grim Dawn’s graphics just reminded me of a game from the 90’s, so I assumed this was an older game like Titan Quest, that was re-released on Steam. Grim Dawn is part of my Best Hack and Slash Games list, so check that out as well if you like this genre. Something about the cover image and the game graphics of the trailers, felt very hard on the edges and weren’t as polished as games like Diablo and Wolcen. I’ve had this game on my Steam wishlist for a long time now, but never went through with the purchase until recently, when I wanted to create this list of the best hack and slash games.
